Welcome to Fishing Lake Métis Settlement, located in the Lakeland area of northeast Alberta and home to a Métis community of about 675 people. Fishing Lake Métis Settlement is situated between two large lakes, Fishing Lake and Frog Lake, and is adjacent to the Elizabeth Métis Settlement. FLMS is accessible by road, within an hour’s drive from Cold Lake, Bonnyville and Lloydminster.

Fishing Lake is considered the birthplace of the eight settlements–it was here that the process to secure land for future generations began. Louis Riel and his supporters camped at Fishing Lake during the 1885 Métis Resistance at Batoche, Saskatchewan and many families made their homes here prior to the establishment of the settlement.

Our culture and lifestyle have always been linked with the environment. FLMS was selected for the surrounding lakes and wilderness and the abundant fish and wildlife present in our Settlement.
